No more MOORE's LAW!

[please click on the comic for higher resolution]

Cost of  sequencing is falling sharply. Original graph was adapted from National Human Genome Research Institute. You can find more information from this link.

There is also another recent post about effects of dropping sequencing prices was published on Wall Street Journal (WSJ) Blogs. Here is the link to that post and one more related article on WSJ, check this related article as well.

Squeezing your genome is cheaper than lemonade

Cost of  sequencing is falling sharply.  "Genome sequencing cheaper than lemonade" is not going to be surprising very soon.

Coming back from ICHG ASHG 2011 meeting

ASHG 2011 meeting was great, we both presented our posters and they were both well received.
On the way back home, we saw several highly expressed genes from the window of our plane.
Now, back to work!

Shotgun sequencing

Info for non-science readers
In genetics, shotgun sequencing, also known as shotgun cloning, is a method used for sequencing long DNA strands. It is named by analogy with the rapidly-expanding, quasi-random firing pattern of a shotgun [Wikipedia].

Human Genetics & Genomics, Gordon Research Conference Newport, RI

I will attend "Human Genetics & Genomics" conference (Gordon Research Conference) at Newport, RI.
Commonly known as the Newport Bridge connects the city of Newport on Aquidneck and the town of Jamestown on Connecticut island is a beatiful bridge especially in the summer time.
Every time I cross from the Newport Bridge, it is a joyful experience, watching the boats and the great blue sky. This time it is an inspiration for this cartoon too.
Next week, because of the conference I will keep passing this bridge several times...I will try to take cartoonistic :) notes besides scientific notes which may be the source of new inspirational cartoons.

Human Genome Anniversary (10th year)

15 years ago, J.Craig Vender's team published the first complete genome sequence of a living species. It was a Haemophilus influenza. They used whole genome shotgun sequencing.

Genome Jungle

This is a different type of jungle, and it is too complicated. We are trying to catch them, before they catch us in this jungle...
